Like most of their tarts (minus the pineapple), the pear and almond tart (RMB 35) starts with a delicate, evenly baked almond flour shell which is then filled with ginger, basil and lime zest enriched crème pâtissière. It is finally topped with caramelized Chinese pear that resembles a tarte tatin.

Dutch Pies
Dutch Pies takes their famous apple pie crust and instead fill it with pears, figs and just a hint of orange. It is then topped with a delectable brown sugar crumble. It reminds us of Fig Newtons, but way better. Available by the slice (RMB 25) in store, but stocks are limited. Best preorder a pie if no other flavor will do (RMB 128/7inch, RMB 198/9inch).

Épicerie Cafe Grocery 62 Le Bec
People have been buzzing about the sandwiches, pastries, breads and pates available at Villa Le Bec’s younger sibling Épicerie Cafe & Grocery 62 Le Bec. One of the amazing choices behind the counter is this Pear and Almond Tart (RMB 30). The flavor is very almond forward with a bit of sweetness from the beautifully glazed fruit topping.

La Crêperie
Crepes are a worthy vehicle for most delicious things, so it’s no surprise that they do a delicious pear tart at La Crêperie. They call it La Phare (RMB 58) and top it liberally with pears, almonds, dark chocolat, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Pair it with their lovely French cider for upmost enjoyment.

Light and Salt Daily
If you are looking for a plated fine dining pear experience, look no further than Light & Salt Daily for a caramel pear and vanilla custard with almond cake and lime sorbet (RMB 68). Almond and vanilla are classic choices, but we really found the lime sorbet to provides a nice citrus contrast.

M on the Bund
Like most desserts at Shanghai institution, M on the Bund, the pear and ginger tart with nutmeg and cinnamon cream and pear crisps (RMB 92 plus 10% service charge) is in a league of its own. The cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg come through strongly and balance well with the sweet, pear crisp.

Pâte
This mind-blowingly pretty pear and red wine tart (RMB 48) is currently a weekend special. They soak the pears with red wine, cloves and orange peels for two days before setting atop a rich chocolate tart. Make sure to plan ahead and make time for this in your weekend. We heard they might consider making it a daily thing, if we show them how much we love it.

Wujie on the Bund
Leave it to Wujie on the Bund to create such a visually appealing and interesting use of pear. This pear konjac dessert (RMB 52) looks like a museum piece, but break through the konjac jelly to get to the fruit puree and revel in the subtle pear flavor. The contrast in textures is half the fun.
